And what's your real name, if you don't mind sharing? Darwin is my boxer, (named after Charles) and Stone is my boyfriend's last name. Yes, I followed the patriarchal rules in naming my dog. Technically, he was a gift to my boyfriend, but that doesn't make him any less mine. Darwin is spoiled but not rotten. My name is Karlyn. Geographic Locale, job, etc. I am a scientist, part geologist, part ecologist. More specifically I could be described as paleolimnologist, a paleoclimatologist, and a diatomist. Remember that movie The Day After Tomorrow. Well instead of ice cores, I look at sediment cores recovered from lakes. Preserved in the mud are the fossil remains of a group of microscopic algae called diatoms. I'm interested in these algae because the types of species present can tell us about the environment in and around the lake in the past. So far the lakes I've looked at are small and from parts of the world that were recently covered by glaciers - so the oldest mud is only about 12-13,000 years old. My boyfriend, however, has looked at diatoms from a large lake in Africa that are a million years old. We've been living in Nebraska for the last 7 years, having moved there for graduate school. However, in a couple of months I will be moving to Sweden for a year (without boyfriend or boxer ) to begin a postdoc. What are you doing when you are not obsessing over Jason Dohring? One of my first management jobs was to transform a restaurant overlooking the Long Beach harbor that had not been active since the 1950's in an old hotel called "The Breakers." The name of the restaurant? The Skyroom. My real name is Peggy (short for Margaret). Tell Us About Yourself - Geographic Locale, job, etc - I live in Morro Bay, CA. Grew up in Long Beach CA. My career was hotel management. I worked at the Disneyland Hotel, among other places, then was district manager for a number of Central coast restaurants and a winery manager. Also, a VISTA for a local literacy center. I am disabled due to Multiple Sclerosis now. What are you doing when you are not obsessing over Jason Dohring? - LOL Is there something else I should be doing? :-) Actually, I read a lot, spend time with a very few close fiends and write. It was such a silly name I decided to keep it. It has become my alter-ego for my obsessions much like poor Gollum in Lord of the Rings. Purchased 5 aces south of DC and spend my time gardening and taking care of 3 Miniature Schnauzers. Since September, I spend too much time on the PC and watching TV. When I click on Add Reply, just as soon as the page pops up the bold, italic and underline just disapears. So I can't like underline or italicize anything. Since I've been posting, that has only been handy once when I tried to bold something and it didn't work. After that it's been disapearing.
